When I first walked in to the radio station I didn’t really know what to expect but to say the very least I was very nervous. We were given a tour and introductions, and from the very start Sin made sure that it was clear that the studio was a safe place, we would not be robbed, mistreated, or disrespected. We would not be harmed and there was to be no disrespect to anyone else and there was especially to be no racism. And that did not change. It became a safe space for all of us where we could become a bit more loose and let our creative out. Overall I had a really nice experience there as everyone was very kind and welcoming, especially Sin who never hesitated to help or to make a very bad joke for no reason other than because he can.
In my work experience I’ve learnt a lot, I’ve learnt how certain businesses run themselves, like the radio business, how they are fully self sufficient because they provide and rent the space and they create the media themselves that brings in money.
I learnt how in other businesses like e-commerce, how they build their business online, so everything they do, their service or their product and all their promotion is online.
I learnt how some businesses promote things, for example a business could sponsor someone to advertise them in exchange for money or possibly service or product, the might have a marketing team to create advertising themselves and then to make that, they might hire people like a film crew and they will then quote them for how much that would cost them to make, factoring in time, staff and equipment.
I learnt how our streaming software (OBS) works and how to regulate volume and sound. I learnt how easy it actually is to make an article when I always thought it was alot more complicated. I’ve learnt the basics of capcut and how to use an editing software like capcut to make marketing or make a video.
I learnt how everything is becoming rentable instead of being owned and that means that physical product that you can own are becoming more valuable. I learnt how to make a business proposal for someone or something like marketing. I learnt how the world can be harsh and it’s constantly moving forward so it’s important to keep up and take initiative in life.
I realised that walking into a business like this and talking to people with bigger roles and authority isn’t actually that scary because at the end of the day your just talking to another human being.
Overall at my time at the radio station I’ve realised that I need to stop thinking so narrow and stop keeping myself from doing seemingly amazing things because I think I can’t or it seems impossible. I just need to use my skills for the better and as best as I can.

The second I entered the building I was given an over view of everything in the building, along with safety regulations to make the environment perfect for all of us. We were then told to pick any part of studio to have a look at and explore, I went down stairs to the streaming room, where me and my friends got our first introduction about a software called OBS center. We found out that, it was used to by all most anyone that streams online on apps like twitch, X (twitter) and YouTube.
Later on, we had the first hand opportunity to use OBS to make a podcast of our own. And thats exactly that what we did, even though it was my very first time doing something like this, with the encouragement of our employer and the excitement of being about to represent the company, me and my friends did the podcast. Looking back at that, doing it for the first time wasn’t that serious. Since then, im more experienced in doing podcasts, and im really starting to enjoy it.
Recently, we’ve been assigned to do podcasts on daily news, which i find really interesting, as me and my team have lots of different views on the topics we share. Such as fifa, or mexican batman, which are some of our silly news articles we love to crack on for hours about on our podcasts. But the best part is, being about to express all our different opinions from our perspective, rather than an adult one.
Occasionally, my employer would bring over people from different backgrounds and jobs to have a talk with us. This has really helped me to understand whats out there in the real world when it comes to getting a job. Being able to interact and ask questions with the clients in different fields of work have made me feel more knowledged and understood.
Yesterday, I got an introduction to another software called Logic X pro, which is a software used to make music. When I first saw it, it looked really familiar to the another software I used at school, called garage band. In Logic, we learned how to add audio, how to record and how to save our final product along with other variants in the software. This was also quite fun as we all got to practice ourselves in how to operate it so its more effective in remembering.
But have I really enjoyed the past two weeks? HELL YEAH, I mean.. im really glad I came here. At first I was a bit iffy about this placement knowing that I wanted a future in science. However, being able to discover new things over these two weeks feels like a blessing. Cause if I went to a pharmacy I wouldn’t even know that Logic or OBS existed. And im really happy, cause my career pathway just widened even more with the knowledge of these things that I’ve never even heard about, before but now have i really came to a good understanding of them.

During my two weeks of work experience at London Hott Radio, I was introduced to the work area and got familiar with the services that London Hott Radio has, including studio rooms, DJ rooms, podcast suites, and other creative spaces. I learnt how to use the equipment, including the computer, connecting, turning on, and using the microphone. I was also introduced to Logic and learnt how to add audio to it.
As part of the experience, I wrote lines, recorded them, and got familiar with writing music before learning how to mix and master the music. I did this with a group of six people, and we were all included and all wrote lines for the music, although I mostly helped with writing the lines.
I also wrote articles on subjects I am passionate about and read them out in a podcast-dedicated area whilst being recorded. I wrote an article on one of the paths I would like to follow in the future, History, as well as an article on whether everything happens for a reason.
Another part of my work experience involved using information on an event and clients to create a presentation with advantages and disadvantages. I helped Sin with his client, who planned for a series of events in October called Night of Legends. I researched the club in Malta called QUBE and evaluated why it may be a good place to hold the event. I also used information from one of the performers about Culture Events and wrote about the performers and the plans for the event. Through this, I was involved in planning an event and am going to work as the event takes place.

What I Learned During My Work Experience at London Hott Radio
During my work experience at London Hott Radio, I learned a wide range of valuable skills that gave me a better understanding of how a radio station operates. I gained experience using professional software, improved my writing skills, and learned how the media can have a positive impact on people’s lives.
One of the main things I learned was how to use Logic Pro, which is a music production and audio editing software. I learned the basics of recording, editing, and organising audio. This showed me how radio presenters and producers create high-quality sound for broadcasts and music projects.
I also learned how to use OBS (Open Broadcaster Software), which is used to manage live radio and video broadcasts. I discovered how to switch between different audio and visual sources, prepare live streams, and understand the technical side of broadcasting. This experience improved my confidence with professional media technology.
Another important part of my work experience was meeting Kareem, who shared his life story and explained how he turned his life around after serving time in prison. Instead of allowing his past to define him, he now spends his time encouraging young people to make positive choices and avoid getting involved in crime. He does not focus on what he went to prison for because his goal is not to glorify prison but to show that people can learn from their mistakes and build a better future. His story taught me that everyone deserves a second chance if they are willing to change.
I also learned about Raver, an up-and-coming artist who rebuilt his life through music after being released from prison in 2017 at the age of 45. Rather than giving up, he used music to express his experiences and inspire others. His story showed me how creativity can help people overcome challenges and make a positive difference in their lives.
As part of my placement, I also developed my journalism and writing skills by producing articles on different topics. One article I wrote discussed the debate around a social media ban, explaining both the advantages and disadvantages. I explored how social media can contribute to problems such as cyberbullying and misinformation while also recognising that it helps people stay connected and access news. Writing this article improved my ability to research, present balanced arguments, and communicate clearly.
Overall, my work experience at London Hott Radio helped me develop a range of practical and personal skills. I improved my communication, writing, teamwork, listening, and technical abilities while learning to use professional software such as Logic Pro and OBS. I also gained confidence by working in a real media environment and understanding how radio stations produce content. Most importantly, I learned that the media can be used to educate, inspire, and give people a platform to share positive messages. This experience has increased my interest in media and broadcasting and has given me skills that will benefit me in the future.

My work experience in the London Hott Radio station was more than just a line on my CV. It was an inspiring look into a creative industry driven by passion, culture, and community spirit. This place taught me some new stuff like how to edit videos, how to start a live. For anyone looking to break into media, diving headfirst into local radio is an unforgettable way to start. This placement completely changed my perspective on media careers. It demystified the technology behind broadcasting and showed me the sheer amount of preparation required for a seamless show. Beyond the technical skills of audio editing and scriptwriting, I developed confidence in my communication and adaptability.and it also made me realise that I have to keep everything clean and make sure my attitude is good and make sure we treat the clients nice and be polite.

When people think of a radio station, they usually picture a charismatic host, a soundboard covered in flashing lights, and the latest music tracks. But during my recent work experience at a local station, I got to peek behind the curtain. What I discovered was a masterclass in how modern media operates, how a creative business stays afloat, and how economic journalism translates complex global markets into everyday stories.
Before starting, I assumed radio was just about live broadcasting. I quickly learned that a modern radio station is actually a multi-platform media hub. However it’s made out to be filled with many opportunities that is able to help people financially.
Perhaps the most challenging and exciting part of my experience was shadow-writing for the daily news and business bulletins. This is where media and economics collide.
Economic journalism isn’t about reading off stock tickers or throwing jargon at the audience. It is about translation. My mentors showed me how to take a complex economic concept—like rising interest rates, inflation, or supply chain disruptions—and explain what it actually means for the average listener.
This experience didn’t just teach me how radio works—it showed me how the modern world communicates, trades, and grows.
